The Petal Beneath The Strawberries

 The Most Treasured Moment From

My 2nd Emirati Experience

Was The Petal Beneath The Strawberries.

It was on 20th July 2015.  As tired as Michelle, Delali and I were, Leo insisted we met at 10 pm for dinner at the rooftop (Uptown) of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel as some of his friends visiting from Qatar where he works were joining us. After the food filled yatch ride all day, and exciting water sport activities, we agreed on just drinks, dessert and an early night in.

We all had cocktails and there was one glass of strawberries with our order.  Delali was biting on the fruits and she constantly offered them to us but we kept turning her offer down as we didn’t want to be the ones to unveil the buried petal.  As she made her way to the bottom of the glass, her facial expression begun to change.  She lifted the petal and found her sparkle.  Underneath the petal was an engagement ring!

Leo immidiately got on his knees, sounding nervous, mumbling out his words of proposal.  The background music and the excitement around the moment made it hard for any of us to hear exactly everything he said but she sure said She Will!!!

IMG_0297This is actually the first proposal I have ever witnessed in person and I pray for many more.  I still have a few single friends to go so fingers crossed!

The next day, we had an engagement celebration dinner at 360 Degrees Restaurant of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

I am truly privileged to have been a part of their story.

A couple who are truly friends.

On Friday 25th March we hosted Delali’s Hen Night (Bachelorette) in Accra.

Theme: Pyjama Party

We girls, had an amazing time.  It was a simple yet extremely happy night.  We were just ourselves.  We laughed, we drunk, we ate, we played and we danced!  It is my heart’s desire that every single one of the women in that room, experiences the true joys that life brings.

Then came along the day we had all been waiting for.

Saturday 26th March 2016.

Delali and Leo’s Traditional Marriage

I remember the first time I saw Delali.  It was on a working day night at Bella Roma Night Club in Osu.  It was in 2011.  She was with her cousin Michelle.  We barely spoke but Michelle and I exchanged phone numbers as she said she had also relocated to Ghana from  UK.  We kept in touch.

4 years later, I found myself on Vacation in UAE and Thailand with her.  She is one of the most selfless people I have ever met.  Delali has a kind heart.  She doesn’t keep count of the good that she does for others.  She doesn’t expect anything in return either.  That to me is a rare gift.  People like Delali are hard to find and are worth the keeps.  I thank God for the blessings I have counted due to Delali.

We had fun!!!  We ate, we drunk, we danced.  We danced to every beat of the day.

One of the most important things in life is to be surrounded by people who are genuinely happy for you.  When that happens, your spirit is set free.  Your heart enjoys the journey that God has put you on.  Your troubles are fewer and your laughter is the loudest in the room.

Delali and Leo, I wish you all the Happiness your heart desires.  I wish you peace, I wish you love.  I wish you success, I wish you wealth.  May you both never lack.  In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen!

And God said: “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” John 16:24 NIV
